The Breakdown Episode 144

Posted: September 11, 2020 in Uncategorized

Featuring tracks from Chelou, London Grammar, Yumi Zouma, Last Lynx, Austra, Gardens & Villa, Crooked Colours and Haelos.

It’s time for more new indie music, f yeah!

This time around, we’re taking in a bunch of new material from some of our old favourites. Episode 144’s artist list could almost read like one from 2013 / 2014. Gardens & Villa, London Grammar, Last Lynx, Austra, Crooked Colours; they’re all still alive and kicking! And kicking it hard might I add. All of these new releases are very strong, even by the lofty standards set by these acts.

It seems weird to say it, but I feel like London Grammar might even be better this time around. Previously it was all about those mesmerising vocals. They are still there as haunting and silky as they’ve always been, but sonically, they’ve really stepped it up, with some truly A grade songwriting and musicianship in this tune. I’m really looking forward to seeing what else they will give us.

Speaking of vocals, have a go at the voice on half·alive – an epic chorus.

I’m also excited to hear more awesome new stuff from UK genius Chelou. Carrying an unmistakable, distinctive sound, I’m calling him one of the most underrated songwriters going around presently. He’s also a remarkably talented skateboarder – if that’s up your alley, check his Insta out.

Peace and love til next episode
