Welcome to the latest instalment in the Breakdown’s musical odyssey. Another delightful collection of tunes that has been the soundtrack to the last couple of weeks of my adventures awaits you.
First things first… Cherub has given us a cracking indie pop track that has become somewhat of an anthem for our ratbag lifestyle among a few of us here in Whistler, I’ve thrown it on first up so you can start off your Breakdown with a few Doses and Mimosas ;-)
What I consider to be the most complete; at the top of their game; and ahead of their time band of possibly the past 20 years, Yeasayer, have just released a brand new album, Fragrant World. To say I am excited is an understatement. Like their previous releases, this one steps it up from the last, includes genius song-writing and musicianship and uses strange instruments and sounds to perfection. In the week I’ve had it, I’ve clocked up almost 30 listens and still feel I’m only scratching the surface of what it beholds. Give it a go its awesome.
Another track from the brilliant WU LYF album, Go Tell Fire To The Mountain, is included also. Don’t be fooled by the gangster rap sounding name. In my listenings to this cracking collection of music, I’ve decided that they sound like if Animal from the muppets became a singing drummer and formed a collaboration with the lovechild of Foals and At The Drive In. I find their music has a raw, truthful, inescapable and yet ultimately very simple beauty to it. It is currently my second favourite album for this entire year, and making a solid push towards number 1 with every listen. Get a move on Gardens And Villa.
Tracks from other albums / EP’s I’ve been enjoying lately by Yung Life, St. Lucia (both very 80’s influenced cheesy indie pop releases), Bravestation and Poor Spirits have also been included.
