This edition of The Breakdown was, as always, stupidly good. Done once again live at Doc Branigan’s in Whistler, the crowd this week turned up in force, and I was reasonably drunk by the end of it he he hee!
The most exciting discovery of the week for me was Haim, a 3 piece all girl group from LA. They are 3 sisters which which inspires a mix of admiration and jealousy in me. Their EP is only 3 tracks but it is one of the most exciting EP’s I have heard for a long time. Get around them.
I have been listening a lot to albums by The Maccabees, Crystal Fighters, and Of Monsters And Men, all very solid albums, all represented in this mix. The one by Crystal Fighters is a couple of years old, I don’t know what took me so long, but it is latino electro indie pop with an element of dubstep. What creative little cats they are. Get it.
The last album from English producer Four Tet is a similar kettle of fish for me, I was late on it, but totally enthralled. You have to be in a certain mood, and generally on your lonesome to enjoy it fully, but it is hypnotising, deep, somewhat slightly confusing and overall a beautiful piece of art.
