This edition of The Breakdown was another cracker. Done live at Doc Branigans again, this time to a considerably smaller crowd, I played some more amazing tunes as always.
Another beautiful soulful number from The Rubens, these guys are definitely going somewhere and I am solidly on their bandwagon. I played a track from British outfit Crystal Fighters, whose album Star of Love I have been thrashing lately. It’s really good, expect more from them on The Breakdown in coming episodes. More goodness came from little-known Aussie acts Conics, Jungle Giants and Crooked Colours, the latter of which I think will be huge in the not too distant future.
There is also some older numbers from established performers Caribou, Florence and The Machine, The National and Friendly Fires. Check the very interesting cover of Phoenix‘s 1901, and also the AzR song, made only with sounds created by products of a certain fruit shaped computer company, and quotes from its now deceased founder. I really like some of the messages he gives in this song.
